Who We Are
Mid-Missouri United Sports Foundation (MMUSF) is a membership-based nonprofit that supports teams, families, and partners by using sport as a tool for growth—working alongside the youth sports community, not in competition with it.
We were formed by families and coaches who shared a desire to create a more intentional youth sports experience for their own friends, families, and community.
Sport Is the Vehicle
We believe sport is the vehicle—not the destination.
Our focus is on developing character, confidence, leadership, and life skills that extend far beyond the field or court. Winning matters, but how athletes grow as people matters more.
Starting Small, On Purpose
MMUSF is intentionally starting extremely small.
Rather than launching many programs at once, we focus on quality, safety, leadership, and experience—growing only when it is responsible and sustainable.
We do not add more teams, programs, or members than we can properly support. If growth would ever compromise athlete safety, family experience, or fiscal responsibility, we will intentionally pause and reassess.
Membership-Based Foundation
MMUSF operates through an annual, per-child membership, required only when an athlete is participating on an MMUSF-supported team.
Membership:
Covers participation in the sports an athlete is connected to
Helps support the structure and operations needed to run teams responsibly
Provides access to training opportunities, clinics, and foundation-led events
As the foundation grows, we hope to expand opportunities to include educational clinics, mentorship, leadership development, and exposure to new experiences—guided by resources and community need.
Programs We Currently Support
At this stage, MMUSF supports:
Flag football
Tackle football
Basketball
Programs are open to both boys and girls, with inclusivity remaining a core value as the foundation grows.
Coach-Led Teams With Board Oversight
MMUSF operates on a coach-led team model.
Independent coaches may choose to bring their teams under the MMUSF umbrella while maintaining leadership of their team and the athlete-coach relationships families value.
Coaches retain control over day-to-day team operations and athlete development
MMUSF provides board-level oversight focused on safety, conduct, ethics, and leadership
All partnered teams and coaches must operate in alignment with MMUSF’s bylaws, policies, and code of conduct.
Coach Standards & Approval
All partner coaches are required to:
Be USA Football certified
Pass background checks
Follow MMUSF policies related to safety, behavior, ethics, and leadership
Acceptance into MMUSF is not automatic.
Having a team does not guarantee approval.
Each coach and team is reviewed by the organization to ensure alignment with MMUSF’s culture, values, and expectations. Final acceptance is determined through a board review and vote.
Partnering With Independent Teams
MMUSF provides an opportunity for independently run teams to partner with the foundation while maintaining their identity.
Partner teams may benefit from:
USA Football certification and insurance
Background checks
501(c)(3) fundraising and grant opportunities
Connections to leagues and tournaments
Registration, scheduling, roster management, and app-based team communication
Partnerships are built on mutual alignment and a shared commitment to athletes and families.
A Complimentary Community Approach
MMUSF is designed to be a complimentary opportunity within Columbia’s strong youth sports ecosystem.
Many athletes play multiple sports and may participate in more than one team or organization—and we believe that is healthy for their development.
Our goal is to work alongside existing leagues, clubs, and programs to help expand opportunities for families, not replace what already exists.
Intentional Growth & Sustainability
MMUSF grows only when the foundation has:
Appropriate coach-to-athlete ratios
Engaged leadership and members willing to support fundraising and partnerships
The ability to remain financially responsible while reducing barriers for families
Teams, coaches, and members who join MMUSF are expected to be dedicated, disciplined, and aligned with the mission and code of conduct that allow the organization—and its athletes—to thrive.
